چکیده

The photo-excitation and relaxation of a new cyclometalated complex, Ir(ppy)2fppy, is investigated through the measurement of absorption and photoluminescence spectra. Comparison of Ir(ppy)2fppy with Ir(ppy)3 reveals that the lowest energy excited state of Ir(ppy)2fppy is localised on the aldehyde-substituted ligand, thus giving the complex its characteristic orange emission (lmax # 600 nm). OLEDs containing Ir(ppy)2fppy doped into poly(vinylcarbazole) (PVK) exhibit the same characteristic emission as found in solution, implying efficient energy transfer between the PVK and the iridium complex. Our results provide the potential for the synthesis of iridium complexes with different emission wavelengths through the modification of only one ligand.

Ester-Modified Cyclometalated Iridium(III) Complexes as Mitochondria-Targeting Anticancer Agents

Organometallic iridium complexes are potent anticancer candidates which act through different mechanisms from cisplatin-based chemotherapy regimens. Here, ten phosphorescent cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes containing 2,2'-bipyridine-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid and its diester derivatives as ligands are designed and synthesized. The modification by ester group, which can be hydrolysed by estera...

Color tuning associated with heteroleptic cyclometalated Ir(III) complexes: influence of the ancillary ligand.

We report the preparation of a series of new heteroleptic Ir(III) metal complexes chelated by two cyclometalated 1-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyrazole ligands (dfpz)H and a third ancillary bidentate ligand (L=X). Such an intricate design lies in a core concept that the cyclometalated dfpz ligands always warrant a greater pi pi* gap in these series of iridium complexes. Accordingly, the lowest one-elec...

Luminescent biscyclometalated arylpyridine iridium(III) complexes with 4,4'-bi-1,2,3-triazolyl ancillary ligands.

The synthesis, characterization and photophysical investigation of complexes of the form [Ir(R-ppy)2(btz)]PF6 (1 to 3) are reported (btz = 1,1'-dibenzyl-4,4'-bi-1,2,3-triazolyl, R-ppy = 4-(pyrid-2-yl)benzaldehyde (1), 2-phenylpyridine (2) and 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridine (3)). Complexes 1, 2 and 3 are luminescent and exhibit structured emission bands with vibronic progressions at 532 & 568 nm...

Chemical Tuning and Absorption Properties of Iridium Photosensitizers for Photocatalytic Applications

Cyclometalated Ir(III) complexes are of particular interest due to the wide tunability of their electronic structure via variation of their ligands. Here, a series of heteroleptic Ir-based photosensitizers with the general formula [Ir(CN)2(N ∧N)]+ has been studied theoretically by means of an optimally-tuned long-range separated density functional. Focusing on the steady-state absorption spectr...

Upper limit to the ultimate achievable emission wavelength in near-IR emitting cyclometalated iridium complexes.

Iridium complexes bearing cyclometalated (C^N) ligands are the current emitters of choice for efficient phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). Homoleptic iridium complexes Ir(C^N)3 and the analogous heteroleptic ones carrying a β-diketonate ancillary ligand (C^N)2Ir(O^O) often exhibit similar photophysical properties and device performances; the choice among them usually depends ...
